AirBnB is the quickly growing website for finding cheap and often unique accommodations around the world. This is not the place to find a five start hotel room; you’re more likely to find ‘Bob’s Couch’ or a studio apartment that is a short term rental. If you’re looking for room service this may not be for you, but if you’re open to trying something new and are enticed by the option for a small budget accommodation try searching the site.

Searching AirBnB

When you go to AirBnB to try to find an accommodation you need to be ready for staying at the type of location you don’t normally see in a guide book. There are filters that allow you to easily remove any accommodation types that don’t suit your needs. The primary filter is deciding whether you are comfortable with a shared room, private room or an entire room / apartment.

Accommodation types on AirBnB

Yes, the filters for selecting your accommodations do include tree houses, igloos, tipis and parking spaces. As we mention, this is not your typical search engine for a place to stay.

Filter the accommodation search results

As with standard accommodations such as hotels, you are able to choose a place to stay based on what amenities are available from smoking to wireless internet. be sure to double check with the host before you book to ensure that the details are accurate.

Getting a deal on accommodations

In comparison with hotels or using a standard home rental site, you can have a great chance of getting a very deep discount on AirBnB. In London I was able to locate an entire apartment for rent in a good neighborhood for only $91 per night. I was also able to find a studio apartment in downtown Barcelona for an entire month that was cheaper than paying for rent in another city. These were in great locations and included WiFi internet in the apartments.
