Hotel Birger Jarl – Stockholm

Stockholm is a city that ranges from cheap and affordable to extremely luxury. The Hotel Birger Jarl is perfectly situated right in the middle of the two. The hotel is definitely on the nicer side of the spectrum but the prices are not over the top. I’d highly recommend it and would definitely stay there again.

Hotel rooms at the Hotel Birger Jarl

The rooms were extremely spacious, particularly when considering that you are in Stockholm. The superior room included a spacious sitting area, comfortable bed and large bathroom (shower only). Technically they were two beds, but pushed together you didn’t even notice.

In-room Amenities

From free wifi and flat screen TVs, the rooms were equipped with all of the basics. This includes a safe, desk and plenty of room for your luggage. The WiFi was fast and free, which is more and more important these days.

Restaurant & bar

The bar and restaurant offer a great selection of beverages and a pretty fantastic menu. The bar menu does not have a huge selection but offers a bit of everything. The choices range from olives or cheese plates to burgers and fries.

The restaurant itself attracts a busy crowd due to the quality of the food. If you are interested in dining at the hotel you may want to even consider putting in a reservation since the place does get packed.

In addition to the draw of the restaurant and bar, on some nights there is also live entertainment. The jazz band that was playing while I was at the hotel was quite good, which brought in a big crowd.

Location

While the Hotel Birger Jarl is not directly in the city center (Norrmalm), the location is great. There is a metro stop located less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel but I never bothered. You can walk to the city center with all the major shops in about 10-15 minutes. Even closer are plenty of bars and restaurants. Walking to the older city center (Gamla Stan) is about 20 minutes from the hotel on foot.
