The Waterway restaurant – Maida Vale, London
The Waterway restaurant in Maida Vale is one of London’s best and restaurants. Unpretentious and reasonably priced with exquisite dishes. The menu changes regularly, depending on the season and what the chef is able to source for fresh ingredients. This hidden gem can get quite busy, particularly in nicer weather due to the outdoor patio area, overlooking the Grand Union Canal of Little Venice.
The bar area can get quite busy and is a great atmosphere, particularly during the colder months with a fireplace and comfortable couches to relax with a drink. The indoor restaurant is cosy and quaint with a friendly staff, expansive wine selection and delectable dishes with impressive presentation. In the warmer months you can enjoy the outdoor patio, inclusive of heaters for chillier evenings.
Starters
You cannot go wrong with the seared scallops. Giant sea scallops, always cooked perfectly and often served on a vegetable puree or with cockles, samphire, baby plum tomatoes and saffron. The chargrilled squid will keep you coming back for more and the small portion of gnocchi is incredible.
Main courses
The roast salmon, often prepared with different accompaniments, depending on what produce is fresh, is always cooked to perfection. Try the mint and pea risotto for something a little twist on an everyday favorite. The fare at the Waterway ranges from The Waterway Burger – it would be difficult to find a better burger in London – to a grilled Hereford rib-eye steak.
Brunch
Available on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 1pm, the brunch menu offers a limited offering but does include favorites like eggs benedict, florentine and royal, as well as items like scrambled eggs with salmon or a simple greek yoghurt with honey and berries.
Also check out The Summer House, located almost directly across the street, with the same owners, although only open during the summer season. For the Summer House or the Waterway be sure to make a reservation.
